Josephine County Sheriff’s Office
Solid leadership during challenging times
Operating within our county, the Sheriff's Office serves as a cornerstone of law enforcement and public safety. At the heart of a Sheriff's Office is the elected sheriff. Sheriff Dave Daniel leads the department and acts as the chief law enforcement officer for the county.
Sheriff Daniel was elected Josephine County Sheriff in November 2014. He was re-elected in 2018 and 2022, currently serving his third term. Sheriff Daniel has filled many positions and assignments during his tenure. He has been a traffic officer, community resource team member, SWAT team instructor/member (16 years), major crimes detective, range master/firearms instructor and patrol officer. In 2013 Sheriff Daniel was awarded the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor following a life threatening event involving a fight over a firearm while arresting a sex offender.
Under the Sheriff’s guidance, a team of deputies, investigators, and administrative staff work collaboratively to carry out a range of responsibilities. These include patrolling neighborhoods, responding to emergencies, conducting criminal investigations, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the local justice system.
The Sheriff's Office is responsible for enforcing local laws and ensuring public safety and operates as the frontline law enforcement agency within our county. Deputies patrol communities, investigate crimes, and apprehend suspects — laying the groundwork for the justice process.
Upon arrest, suspects are often processed at the county jail overseen by the Sheriff's Office.
This is where the partnership with the District Attorney's Office and processing of evidence is crucial. The District Attorney (DA) serves as the chief prosecutor, representing the state in criminal cases. He works closely with law enforcement agencies, including the Sheriff's Office, to build strong cases against individuals accused of breaking the law. The DA evaluates evidence, decides whether to file charges, and ultimately pursues convictions in court.
